The Money Museum (Museu do Dinheiro) in Lisbon was honestly one of my least favorite stops during my trip – not because it lacks importance, but because it didn’t quite capture me in the same way as other museums. There’s also a section dedicated to the medieval King Dinis’ Wall, discovered during restoration in the building’s crypt, adding a historic and archaeological dimension to the experience.

If you’re into history, economics, or even just curious about the role of money in human society, the Money Museum is worth dropping by. Personally, I appreciated revisiting some of the financial concepts I once studied in school – but I have to admit, the presentation didn’t win me over completely. Still, for a quick stop and some unique photo moments, it’s a solid pick.

The museum’s interactive elements are a major highlight: you can virtually mint a coin or print a banknote with your face, and the touchscreen displays make the journey through financial history feel playful and engaging. While some exhibits feel a little lightweight, the blend of video, large-format visuals, and tactile experiences adds a fun, modern twist. That said, I felt there was room to deepen the narrative and better storytelling for visitors who really want to dig into numismatics. Overall, it’s an Instagram-worthy and thought-provoking visit — especially on a sunny Lisbon afternoon.
