View of the Brandenburg Gate, one of the most famous landmarks in Berlin

BERLIN, GERMANY

Berlin, the vibrant capital of Germany with a population of over 3.7 million, is a city where history and modern culture collide. From its pivotal role in shaping European history – from the Prussian Empire and the World Wars to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 – Berlin offers an unparalleled journey through time. Visitors can explore iconic landmarks like the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, and the East Side Gallery, or dive into the world-class museums on Museum Island.

One fascinating story that Berliners love to tell is about the “Berliner Luftbrücke” or Berlin Airlift of 1948-49, when allied planes supplied the city during a Soviet blockade – a tale of resilience that shaped the city’s modern identity. Beyond history, Berlin is a cultural powerhouse, influencing art, music, and theater across Europe. With its thriving creative scene, legendary nightlife, and rich artistic heritage, Berlin is not just a destination – it’s an experience that captures the spirit of Europe itself.

The reason for my visit to Berlin was the screening of the film I was working on at the Berlinale Film Festival. It was the perfect reason to explore a new country and experience a new culture. I spent seven days in Berlin in February, visiting some of the most fascinating museums while also attending various festival events.

Destinations for Our Next Lisbon Trip

Considering Berlin has such a rich cultural heritage and that it takes much more time to explore everything that interests me, this is a city I will definitely visit again. Next time, my list will include the following places: The Neues Museum, The Pergamon Museum, Berlin Zoological Garden, and the Jewish Museum Berlin. I also didn’t get to experience the nightlife enough, which I’m leaving for my next trip.
